LNP Premier votes against fuel price caps for Logan
The Queensland Parliament last night witnessed the extraordinary sight of the LNP Premier voting against lower fuel prices for people in Logan.
It will mean people filling up in Logan will pay more at the bowser, more often.
It was a sorry sight to see the Premier vote to make fuel more expensive by voting against a motion to urgently pass Labor's laws.
He cynically and selfishly put his own petty political games ahead of the genuine affordability concerns of everyday Queenslanders in the Logan.
Labor’s Transport Affordability Bill would have capped fuel prices at no more than five cents per day.
And each day, service stations would have been required to publish the price they would charge for fuel the following day, so that families and businesses could make better informed decisions about when to fill up.
The RACQ supported these initiatives and has been calling for their implementation since the election.
The experts said these reforms would make petrol cheaper, but still, the LNP Premier MPs voted against it, as did his entire Government in the Parliament.
The Crisafulli LNP Government’s decision to vote down the move is a betrayal of Queenslanders who are being squeezed by the affordability crisis and an unprecedented fuel price shock.
Premier David Crisafulli has consistently refused to take any action to help Queenslanders through the fuel price crisis.
David Crisafulli stands alone and isolated as the only Premier in the nation who has done nothing to help the people in his state.
While David Crisafulli does nothing, people in Logan have seen the price of diesel spiral to $3.29 per litre, and the cost of unleaded petrol spike above $2.89 per litre.
Disturbingly, the signs are that this fuel crisis will only get worse, putting further pressure on already severely strained household and business operator budgets.
The Transport Affordability Bill won't be debated now until at least November.
Quotes attributable to Springwood MP Mick de Brenni:
“In the midst of an affordability crisis and a fuel price shock, the Crisafulli LNP Government has voted in favour of people from Rochedale South to Cornubia, paying more at the bowser more often.
“It is a terrible outcome for Logan.
“David Crisafulli and his LNP MPs might think they’ve played a smart political game by voting down a Labor initiative, but what they’ve really done is ignore the very real financial pain everyday people in Logan are experiencing every day.”
“Everyday motorists and transport companies big and small across Logan were betrayed by the LNP Premier, who refused to vote in favour of urgently passing Labor’s laws to lower fuel prices.
“Logan will not forget this as we pay hundreds of extra dollars at the bowser, more at the grocery store and struggle to pay their bills.
“Logan will not forget that when the LNP had the chance to vote in favour of the people, David Crisafulli and the LNP instead deliberately and cynically chose to put politics before people.
“David Crisafulli now stands as not only the only leader in the nation to do nothing about the fuel crisis, he is now the only leader to have voted against doing something that would have actually helped the people of his state.”
“This is a new low for the LNP Premier, to vote against something that would benefit the very people he is supposed to serve.
